About TJs

TJ's first started life in 1971, half it's size and christened CEDARS REST, a restaurant specialising in steak and seafood before it turned into a burger bar with the name of THE PITTSBURG DINER. It was around this time that John bought the property next door joined them together and renamed it EL SIECO'S... before he eventually decided on TJ'S DISCO which has survived albeit in abbreviated form for the last 12 years.

What does TJ'S stand for? Quite simple - Trilby and John (Trilby was John's late other half; a remarkable, feisty, character who once boxed the Iron Maiden's ears when they happened upon the club and tried to have an impromptu jam on stage.

Kurt Cobain's been here (as John likes to tell everyone) so has Rik Mayall, who was a very nice man and got all the bar staff pissed at his expense. Richey Edwards used to hang out here at the weekends before he went missing.

The club was featured in the Dec 97 issue of FHM as one of the top '50 Big Nights Out' in the world!

John Sicolo, The Owner

For those of you who don't know, John is the proud owner of TJ's and has been for the last 37 years since leaving the merchant navy where he served as a cook, hence his culinary skills which have been enjoyed by more bands than you've had, er, hot dinners.

John Trivia

His middle name is Arthur.

He is not Italian, he's in fact half Welsh, half Seychellian.

His date of birth is the 9th of March (which makes him a Piscean believe it or not!) and his favourite tipple is dark rum.

When not having his photograph taken with famous DJs he likes to fill his time gardening, sailing, collecting bric a brac and acting (I kid ye not - he's appeared in a Welsh electricity ad and a BBC Wales Shakespearian adaptation 'The Tempest In Butetown').

John is single, eligible and open to offers from young heiresses who can keep him in the fashion he would like to be accustomed to.
